Student Volunteering Week 2019

 

"We are excited to announce that Student Volunteering Week 2019 will take place from 11th – 17th February. Entering its 19th year, Student Volunteering Week aims to celebrate the impact of student volunteers and encourage students to engage in civic life. Student Hubs and the National Union of Students (NUS) are supporting the Student Volunteering Network (SVN) to deliver the campaign.

Student Hubs believes that when students are supported to tackle social challenges, learn about issues and connect with each other, both communities and students benefit. SVW is a brilliant opportunity to demonstrate how social action creates positive change. High quality social action enhances communities and equips young people to become skilled, active citizens. We are looking forward to building on the success of previous campaigns. Student Volunteering Week 2018 saw 60 Colleges, Universities and Students’ Unions from across the UK take part. Over 55,000 students were involved in various types of social action during the week."

Throughout the week the Student Life Department will be putting on amazing events that are open to all students to attend and help out. We are aiming to reach a staggering total of 1,000 hours donated through staff and students. No matter your reason for wanting to volunteer we are here to help you achieve and get stuck into volunteering, so have a look what we have on this week!

 

Monday 11th February

Pat & Chat!

11am - 1pm, Room DMLL

Come along on Monday 11th February from 11am – 1pm in the Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL) and meet some of the Dogs Trusts’ four legged friends! The Dogs Trust not only rehomes dogs, there are so many ways that you can get involved with this amazing charity such as fundraising, volunteering and even through wedding favours! Tuesday 12th February

Miniature Volunteering Fair

12noon - 2.00pm, The Hub

After the success of the November Volunteering Fair, we've decided to bring it back in February! Come along and find out about all the amazing local charities and volunteering opportunities. You'll be amazed at the reach, divesrsity and experiences that are on offer! With over 22 stalls there's going to be something for every course, career and most important, person.

Post Pals 

12 pm - 3 pm, The Hub

Swing by and flex your creativity by posting a smile on a sick child’s face, by the sending of cards, letters, emails and little gifts to seriously ill children and their siblings in the UK. We will provide you all the paper, coloured pens and pencils and glitter you will need as well as the stamps and envelopes to send your creations. All we need from you is a bit of time to sit down and bring your imagination to life. This charity really does make the world of difference to the people who deserve is most!

 

Friday 15th February

NHS Blood Donation Station - Make A Difference Day

10am - 1pm

Many students and staff will be meeting on Friday morning to come together and give blood locally at Coventry Central Hall. The aim is for students and staff who have not given blood to go together and support each other whilst going through the donation process.
